Benefits for Baby

If you need a motivation for exercising during pregnancy, I have the BEST ONE. Your baby benefits from your active body! Recent mind-blowing research has shown that an exercising mom can benefit her baby for the lifespan of the child. Exercise during your pregnancy significantly changes the vascular smooth muscle of an infant’s heart, which literally programs the arteries of your baby to be more resilient and efficient.  It is believed this can reduce one’s chance for having heart disease even into adulthood.

But in the words of the Cat in the Hat, “But that is not all, oh no, that is not all!”

Exercise also enhances the newborn child’s brain development. Researchers discovered the newborns to have  a “more mature cerebral activation, suggesting that their brains developed more rapidly.”  The implications are that these little ones may be more developed in terms of language, motor, intellectual and social skills.

Many more questions are raised and researchers will continue to assess these children for more findings.
