Owner of Mommy Fitness, Julie loves what she does.  Her vision to provide Omaha with perinatal fitness began a few years ago when an Omaha OB/GYN physician asked Julie to assist her patients as a wellness consultant, providing guidance in healthy living and exercise during pregnancy.  This initiated a complete shift in her already extensive background in the fitness industry and the dream of opening a studio was born.

Julie has a B.S. in Biology Education and almost 20 years experience in the fitness industry.  Her national certifications include Healthy Mom’s Perinatal Instructor, Pelvic Floor Restore Instructor, AFAA Personal Trainer, Dancing for Birth Instructor, as well as numerous other instructor certifications.  She is also a DONA trained doula and works with cancer survivors as a Certified Cancer Exercise Specialist.

Julie is committed to continuing her education and educating others in order to provide the most comprehensive fitness programs possible. In September of 2014, Julie completed Gail Tully’s Spinning Babies course where she learned about Belly Mapping and fetal positioning which she incorporates into prenatal classes and doula services.  Julie also attended the Indie Birth Midwifery Conference in Sedona, Arizona in March of 2017 to expand her knowledge of birth.

Penny Albers

Penny Albers Omaha Tai Chi family fitness classes for moms and kids fitness for older kidsPenny earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education from UNL, a Master of Science in Health Promotion Management from Nebraska Methodist College, is a certified Group Exercise Instructor through the American College of Sports Medicine, certified Tai Chi Moving for Better Balance Instructor from the National Safety Council and the Oregon Research Institute, certified Tai Chi: Yang Style 24 Forms from Tai Chi for Balance sponsored by the Friendship Program, Alegent Creighton Health, and the Tai Chi Yoga Center. Penny is a Pelvic Floor Restore instructor and is working toward completing her Qigong for Cardiovascular Health Instructor Training. 

As a wife and mom of 2 energetic girls, she understands how challenging it can be to take time to slow down, energize, and do something positive for yourself. Penny’s goal is to improve participants’ quality of life by providing a supportive environment, educational opportunities, and exercise classes that empower participants and their family members to make healthy lifestyle choices.



Taron Ballard

Julie and Taron met just before Taron became pregnant for the first time.  Taron is one of Julie’s “original moms” and took Prenatal Cardio&Strength from Julie throughout her pregnancy.  She felt that she gained so much from her experience with Julie; she decided to join our team!  Taron completed her Yoga Teacher Training at Lotus House of Yoga in Omaha.  She is in charge of our yoga programs including – Yoga for Moms&Kids, Mommy&Me Yoga, Postpartum Flow, and Candlelight Restorative Yoga.

Her passion for natural health and fitness make Taron a perfect fit at Mommy Fitness!  Like Julie and the rest of our team, she loves helping people to feel their best!

My intention is to create a comfortable environment, where moms can tend to the needs of their babies, baby can burn off some energy while interacting with other children, mom can stretch out those tired muscles, and have fun while we are doing it.”



Diane Newcomer

Diane Newcomer Mommy and Me group leader, infertility support, new momsDiane grew up in Saint Joseph, Missouri, and moved to Omaha weeks after getting married.   She was an English as a Second Language teacher for adults in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she met her husband.  Her undergraduate degree is in Intercultural Studies from North Central University and her Master’s degree is in Language Teaching from UNO.  She taught English to adults in South Omaha before becoming a full time mom.

Diane loves little ones.  She taught swimming lessons for 8 years.  Then transitioned to teaching preschool fitness Strech N Grow Omaha for 5 years.  She felt right at home after coming to Mommy Fitness.  Admittedly, her favorite class is restorative yoga that she deems, “better than counseling”.

Diane understands waiting for children after her husband and her dealt with health issues and infertility for several years.  She is a minimalist when it comes to parenting.  Since her son was born in February of 2015 she is freshly aware of what moms with little ones are facing and is excited to walk along side and support other moms.


Emily Hanigan

With a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, a Minor in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuropsychology from Creighton University and a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health, Emily’s goal is to improve and maintain women’s health through mind, body, and soul. In conjunction with her academic degrees, Emily holds a certification in Personal Training (PT) through American College of Sports Medicine and is DONA trained as a doula. With her certification in PT, Emily has trained many women of all ages and health backgrounds. She currently teaches in the Exercise Science and Pre-Health Professions Department at Creighton University.

Emily’s hobbies include biking, anything on water, rock climbing, and reading a good book for the soul. Although she has no children of her own, Emily is from a large family and has been surrounded by pregnant women and babies all her life. It is her family that drives her passion for health and fitness throughout all phases of life.

Katie joined Mommy Fitness as Operations Manager in November of 2016.  An Omaha native and graduate of Burke High School, Katie has spent the past thirteen years working in retail and customer service.  She has recently decided to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse and is currently working towards receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Her passion for empowering women through education and community fit perfectly with the mission of Mommy Fitness. Katie’s hobbies include spending time with family and friends, enjoying the outdoors, and snuggling her dog.
